Talk: (How) Can We Create Meaningful Robots?
Abstract:
Most of HRI papers start with the claim that robots will soon be entering our homes and live with us, work for us but since the beginning of my career in the field I have evidenced very little proof that this claim was going to be true anytime soon. One of the main reasons in my opinion is our inability as engineers and designers to imagine and create meaningful roles for the robots and to build such robots. In this presentation I will develop why it may be the case, how we could solve it, and why HRI must involve more senses.
